Hi
Its a fairly good system, but can't read CVs though it can set them. You would need to add the ProBox to be able to read CVs.
Some user have reported problems with the Infra Red when used under some fluorescent lighting conditions.
I wouldn't pay more than £50 for a used complete system and then I would need to be 100% sure its fully working!

Hi
If you want to go DCC I don't think you'll regret it.
There is nothing seriously wrong with the Dynamis.
If the price is right and you're happy, then go for it.

Hi
Yes, the Dynamis is better than the Hornby Select, but can (depending on where purchased) be a little more expensive.
The Select fails to conform to NMRA standards and is a very basic train set system, while the Dynamis does fully conform and can write all CVs.
Unfortunately, if you want all the 'Whistles and Bangs' from the Dynamis you need to purchase the add on ProBox which makes the combined cost of basic Dynamis and ProBox much more expensive that some really good systems.
Rough pricing which can be less or more depending on where purchased.
Hornby Select around £70ish
Basic Bachmann Dynamis around £90ish.
Seriously consider the NCE PowerCab. While its a tethered (lead) system, it far out strips the Dynamis and Hornby Select. Costs around £130ish for a complete starter set.
