It's a long time since I owned a BR loco, bought for me when I was 3 after a trip to the dentist, it had blood and custard coaches. OO happy days.
I have a stock of GWR and southern in N and but find myself drooling over a Castle Class engine in early BR green. My question is , is it acceptable for this engine to pull maroon coaches? Say post 1956?

Hi GWR1962 , The following is taken from Wikipedia not sure if it helps,
Discussions on the livery for British Railways coaching stock in 1948 settled on a network-wide two-tone livery of crimson and cream for corridor coaches, with all-over crimson being used for local, non-corridor stock.
From 1956 there was a move toward the return of regional colour schemes. Most regions adopted a maroon livery which strongly resembled that of the former London Midland and Scottish Railway. The Western Region started to repaint some coaches in a GWR chocolate and cream livery, while Southern Region reverted to malachite green for all vehicles. For cost reasons, liveries were usually changed piecemeal, when coaches came in for scheduled maintenance. Coaches from different regions could also often find themselves coupled together.

and it also says
In the mid 1950s an all-over darker maroon, which more closely resembled one of the pre-nationalisation liveries, was re-introduced, except for the Southern Region, where stock was generally painted malachite green, and a small number of express carriages on the Western Region which were in traditional GWR-style chocolate and cream.
I guess the question is then, would the Castle Class loco still have been Green in the mid 1950;s when the maroon coaches would have dominated? Or does it really matter? Maybe I am being too anal!

As far as I know the Castles where always green apart from some in the experimental Blue in the late 40s.
