I have got the East Coast Pullmans Digital set which includes the Class B12/3 4-6-0 Loco. The problem is it will not run,it wants to go,but just stutters. The other train (0-6-0) works like a dream on both loops. The tracks are perfectly clean after ballast, and have checked all the joints with a volt meter and they are ok.Could it be the pick ups??

Hi
Clean all the wheel treads and as well give those rails yet another clean. Then on the loco and if the loco uses wheel wiper contacts carefully check all the wheel wiper contacts that rub on the inside rear of the wheels - clean the area they rub onto on each wheel. Also ensure the inside face of the wipers are clean too - I find a fibre pencil ideal for this and cleaning the wheels too. Now carefully watch and ensure each wiper remains in contact with its wheel when the wheel is moved across the loco. If its doesn't then adjust the wiper carefully with the aid of a pair of tweezers or fine long nosed pliers.

HI, done that and it ran alot better, but not purfect.Has all of the lenght of the pick up be in contact with the wheel or just the outer edge of the wheel that has no paint on.Also the train runs better in reverse than forward,in fact,in forward it will hardly have ago at all.Iam building it in the garage at the moment, but bring the trains in the house when am not using it.Could this be a problem??

Hi
Normally only the end the wiper is touching the wheel.
You may find you track is tarnished. What are you cleaning the rails with??
I wouldn't have thought moving them would cause a running problem.
Have you run them in for some 30 to 40 minutes in both directions at a moderate speed setting?

Iam cleaning the track with meths and a track rubber.I took the pick up plate off last night and gave the wheels and pick ups a good clean and also made sure they were in good contact with the wheels. The train was running ok in both directions.I hav'nt gave them a good run yet, been working on the layout, you reckon that will help.

I would agree with Flashbang, a good run of half an hour in each direction will help. Just have a look at your commutator and see it is clean on the motor.
