Hi Meg, N Gauge can be a bit fiddly, Because of its size the track needs to be laid well as the tolerances especially of the newer N models ( smaller flanges on the wheels ) will mean you would get a lot of derailments if it isn't, and the couplings on N aren't as positive as OO so you might get trucks uncoupling on uneven track, and placing a train of small light trucks back on track can be very fiddly especially if your eyesight is failing . I have been modeling in N for the last 40 years so I'm used to it ( 70 now), but love the fact that you can get so much into a small space , You also have to consider the fact that if you change to N you will have to buy all new whereas you all ready have the OO.

I must admit that I considered modelling in N gauge when I restarted, which was after I retired. The lure of N Gauge was that I could get quite a lot of track in the space I had in my shed. However I did look at one or two engines, and saw that I would have a problem trying to do any repairs that were required. So I went with OO and enjoy it. I too am 71 and although still active, am feeling my age. So ask him to think about what is going to be the easier for him.

Hi 501, I hope that I am able to be running locos when I am 82, if my wife does not throw me out first. Unfortunately age does restrict, dexterity, eyes, memory, to name but a few, and we never seem to be aware of it happening.
