Hi
I will confess firstly that I am new to model railways. I have built a layout with 2 seperate loops. One is a double track circle and the other is a double track figure of eight that is laid over the top using bridges and inclines. At one point the 4 tracks cross over in 2 parrallel lines. What I would like to acheive is the tranfer from one loop to the other without causing a short. I have joined the 2 loops using an isolating track section which works until a train goes over it causing a bridge between the 2 loops and shorting. How can I get over this. In laymans terms please.

Hi Steve, I am afraid that I do not follow your layout description, The double track circle I assume is flat on the baseboard, the second two track loop is at high level and forms a figure of 8, at what point do the two loops meet.
Any way provided you do not have a reverse loop, check and see if you meet the following criteria. All of your tracks in either loop have two rails, an inside and an outside, in other words if you stand in the centre of you layout the rail nearest you on any track is inside and the rail farthest from you on any track is outside. from your control output all the rails on the inside should be wired the from the + or A wire and all the outside rails wired with the - or B wire. If you take a waggon and mark one side A and the other side B, place it on the rails A to A and B to B rail, then move it all around your layout. If at anytime you have an A side over a B rail you have a short and must change the wiring. it would possibly help if you could post a sketch of your layout.

Thank you for your help with this, I am busy at the moment but I will try and send you a sketch of the layout ASAP. Thanks again

Hi Steve, I received the layout drawing, as far as I can see you have four tracks, yellow, pink, green and blue, they seem OK except where you join then together at the left of the station on the left of the plan. I think you will find that if you follow the positive and neg feed for each track at that point you have opposing currents. I have uploaded your plan so that others can see it and make any comment. Unfortunately it is not too clear.

Hi
Unfortunately when its zoomed in on it becomes so fuzzy making the actual plan is unreadable!
If the poster can supply the plan via a photo hosting web site we may be able to view it clearer.

I do not think the image is going to be very helpful, I can get it bigger but the more you do the more fuzzy it becomes. It looks to me that it is out of a book and it is over 18ft long by 5.5 ft wide. I hope you have long arms unless you can get all around it.
Albert.
