Hi all,

I am new to this forum and to n gauge model railways. I am trying to build up a relatively simple and "cheap" set up for my grandsons (or maybe I am going through my second childhood :)). I am not being too purist about the thing as the following question will illustrate.

I have started with a Fleischmann Piccolo set up with one of their engines and some trucks. My question is, if I purchase other makes of truck/wagon such as Arnold, Buchmann, Minitrix, Farish etc will the couplings join? I gather from discussions elsewhere that I may have problems with automatic UNcoupling but this does not worry me too much. The Piccolo set comes with manual uncoupling devises which lift the Fleischmann couplings to disengage.

I see from doing a quick search of the forum that this is the first mention of Fleischmann - I hope I am not posting in the wrong place.........and that I have to be only using British stock :(

I look forward to hearing from you all,

Ivor

Welcome to the forum Ivor. All N Gauge couplings are the standard Rapido, with the exception of some of the new stock. but 99.9% will couple up with no trouble. The big problem with the rapido is how unsightly they are. and that is why some people change them over to the buckeye type such as unimates but I just use the standard rapidos on Briford apart from my fixed rakes of coaches, on which I use my own fixed link made from thin wire. I run Minitrix, Farish, Lima,Dapol all with no trouble at all. Hope this helps.

Brian,

That's great - the words Rapido Couplings is what I was not aware of and putting them into a web search engine brings up lots of info. I shall not be so restrictive in my purchases in future but I'm afraid my freight trains are going to be very MIXED,

Cheers
