Hi Richie
scalescenes .com are rather good value as you pay one price (£3.99) for first platform then ptint off as many as you need. Cheap and all platforms look the same good Heh.

I have found that Metcalfe platforms are good VFM, and they look real, which is more than can be said for Hornby (and a few others ;))

Is it best to craete card ones, if so - do they need strengthening underneath, or would skaledale be a better option for first platforms?

I've tried using stripwood covered with a print of bricks (to scale of course) and topped with a strip of mount board painted grey, with a white line. The effect was very good, but the platform was marginally too high. I'll have another go at some point!

i think it always has something to do with the layout and how you arrange things. not all people using synthetic or organic materials gets a very realistic results. so you have to watch on that.

I must admit I have Hornby platforms. However I did cover them with cobble stones on the top and put bricks up the side. I am not pleased with the cobble stone effect and will remove it, but keeping the bricks on the side. I will possibly paint the platform top in grey, but different to Hornby grey.
