Clay Hills International is a fictional location, influenced by several real life locations, with a dash of artistic licence thrown in for good measure.

Welcoming in 2018

Posted 31-12-2017 at 06:55 PM by Ginger The Hutt
So as 2017 draws to a timely end, I thought it would be a fun idea to look back a year and see what I was doing on the layout this time last year.

I had thought that I had the baseboards partially in place and had at least started laying the incline foundations. Turns out I was several months ahead of myself there. I had barely started the incline corridor baseboard. It leaves me surprised at how much I have achieved in the year.

December Objectives Recap & Review:
Reacquire Percy. Been watching a few on the bay.
Finish the foundations. I have made a proper start on this. a few more pillars and it's done.
Continue laying track on the lower level. So much wiring in place now.
So many wires.

Continue the bridge build. This has also jumped forward with the acquisition of a scroll saw.

January Objectives:
Since nothing of the December objectives were completed, they won't change for January.

So this 'week & weekend' update is a bit late.

Obviously all the planned projects to crack on with, have been ignored. This was unintentional. Kinda. Last week, SWMBO & I went away for a few days to Hull & York. Yes, I managed to swindle a visit to the NRM. I'm a lucky boy.

Aside from a few pencil markings having happened with the bridge, a few bits of track having been turned over and a slightly different wiring process decided upon with regard to the lower section of track and finally a few measurements with the foundation support have been taken, nothing much has been done on the objective front.

However, the monster and I, undertook an extensive cabinet reshuffle over the weekend.
Here is a picture link showing our efforts.

I have lost some of my enthusiasm for the lower levels as mostly it's all flipping soldering. I really don't like soldering all that much. :/ *needs a kick in the butt*

With relatively nothing done in the last week of 2017 and the same in the first week of 2018, it's time to pick up the slack.

Several more sections of track in the lower section have gone down. Several sets of points, with a lot of wires. I just need to acquire the last two sets of points and things are good to go.

Another slow week, relatively speaking. Easing myself back into it.

Wires... More wires... *sigh* Though that's partly by my own design. So another set of points has been placed, and the tracks wired. I have come up against another issue, whereby I need to drill out bigger conduit holes for the wiring. This is a bit of a PITA, but just another lack of foresight.

In other news... I now have one of my long term wanted trains sat on my desk. So I'm very pleased about that!
