Welcoming in 2018

So as 2017 draws to a timely end, I thought it would be a fun idea to look back a year and see what I was doing on the layout this time last year.

I had thought that I had the baseboards partially in place and had at least started laying the incline foundations. Turns out I was several months ahead of myself there. I had barely started the incline corridor baseboard. It leaves me surprised at how much I have achieved in the year.

November has quite the month.

November Objectives Recap & Review:
  • Actually fix Percy. Yeah.
    Nope. Just going to buy a new one.
  • Begin building the foundations for the upper level. 95% done. I just need to put in place a central support.
  • Make a start on the double track suspension bridge kit bash. Started. Paused.
    Tools acquired, to be continued.
  • Build the baseboard section around the control panel, extend the track appropriately & sort the final plans

October Objectives Recap & Review:
Continue laying more track: In particular the lower level. More track got laid.
Just not in the preferential lower section.

Get the initial control panel into place and working. Done! A really good start on the panel has been achieved. Now to build around it.
Fix Percy properly, or have the parts on order at least. Yeah... oops.
Make a start on foundations of the top layer. I have the plans for the foundations forming in...

Thoughts on Weathering

An 00 GWR layout I saw at an exhibition recently was beautifully executed. Set in pre-nationalisation days it certainly caught the atmosphere of the old branch lines and, as the owner/operator pointed out, everything was weathered to a certain extent, trains and structures alike. He went on to say that it was his first layout and I complimented him on quite an achievement. He looked as though he was in his mid-thirties, so could have no memory of what he set out to model, but said that the older...

Julie's Studio to become The Train Shed

Layout size - 12ft x 6 ft (access to both long sides and one short side).

Baseboard 1/2 plywood with 2"x 1" battens and 3" x 2" adjustable legs.

Layout design software - AnyRail 6

Gauge to be used - OO

Model Railway Controller - Gaugemaster DCC02

Track - Peco

Status as at 26/10/2017 - Clearing out art stuff from Studio.
