I think it is better to not have the terminus on the right hand side and make the oval larger. Here is an idea from Hornby. It uses 1st radius track, but you can adapt this idea.

The easiest thing to use is Copydex. It sticks immediately, is not poisonous and just rubs off your hands. No need to bother with nails or pins!
