Reading this thread for the 1st time. Very nice layout, Tinker. Just wanted to mention, on my old layout, all pins (actually cheap-o nails 1x12mm) were hammered in, as they will be on the new one (see thread). You have to hold the pin upright with slim-nosed pliers till it's entered, then use a drift to protect the track when you drive it home. Having said that, the boards were of 13mm chipboard, not ply, and I always drilled slightly oversize holes through the sleepers (a) to allow the track to float on the underlay (2.5mm foam plastic) and give under the weight of the train and (b) to give the pin room to be a bit wonky if I had to push the track to one side to get the alignment right. Hope this helps.

Well one of the benefits of ply Artur i think there Gaugemaster pins i used flat top type can be pushed in by the end of a finger and them knocked in with a pin hammer and punch, all my curvy track is pre-made Peco Cade 100 and comes with pre-drilled holes the straight bit are flexi-track which require drilling, no foam used the track goes straight on the ply and ballasting has begun on a small section to get the hang of it. Alignment of the straight track i have some 16mm hardwood strips that fit between the rails and help keep it straight.

Gaugemaster pins can be pushed all the way home with the end of some pliers, no hammer or drift required so no chance of damaging the track.

Had a play about with the reversing sections so apart from a set of points wrong and a wobbly mobile phone while i switched points this video show how the Milk train will reverse direction than come back to the original track, practice will make perfect or get a 2nd operator for the track controls...

Looking good Tinker. Nice video.

Can I ask what those gradients are in terms of height change & length. They look much steeper than recommended but the engine doesn’t even seem to notice them. Depending where you read there seems to be a big difference in opinion on what’s reliable. I like the look of yours so interested to hear your thoughts.

The gradients are roughly 8' long and the above board flyover needs a 65mm clearance for the train to go under, modern 00 Gauge loco's have center sited motors that drive both bogies and all axles so the grip on the rail is much better, the real railway had gradients down to 1 in 37 and while this may not seem steep driving trains up or down them would soon change a persons mind. hope this helps if i have missed anything keep asking.
