I remember seeing Sputnick 1 going across the night sky.
Those strange things AAH mentioned are outside my little world!!

The light at the end of the tunnel is probably a train coming towards you

I was amazed a few years ago at a t gauge layout of the settle to carlisle line in t gauge, it was the size and the fact you could fit it and have a full scene in a small space!

I had a T gauge train set a while back, but I put it down and now I can't find it...

To answer the question, however - you can buy both motorised and unmotorised chassis. They come ina a transparent bodyshell which you can use as a base for something more train-like. Check out for what's available.
There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. I run trains along that line whenever possible
