I have noticed that some of the old buffers are getting hard to find. Have look on ebay there are one or two spares people on there who are quite helpful. One of the ones I can recommend is called John followed by a number. Cant remember the number. You may find that to get over the problem you may have to change the fitting of the buffer by drilling out the old method of fitting and fitting a different type which looks right.
I recently repaired a Lima GWR coach and that had moulded buffer on the chassis, so I filed the broken bit off and drilled small hole so it fitted a Hornby push in type and it worked quite well.
