Default Lincolnshire Wolds Railway

As I am sure most of you are I am always on the lookout for Railway related books, and in particular a challenge I have is finding colour pictures of my own particular era and location. Most colour pictures tend to be more preservation related and weathering in particular requires good stocks of period colour pictures.

I went along to the 40's weekend at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway on Saturday and while enjoying everything they had on offer I also had a good look through their surprisingly substantial collection of books. I was very pleasantly surprised to find the following:

Robert Adley: In Praise of Steam. Not perfect period and location but still lots of really good colour pictures.

Robert Adley: The Call of Steam. Again superb colour shots.

The Railway Data File: Always useful for those bits and bobs that you have always been too embarrassed to ask about but what you don't know enough about to be able to explain to someone else!

Colin Garratt: The Golden Years of British Steam Trains. Unfortunately all black and white but some superb atmospheric period shots of sheds and yards etc.

Peter Herring: Classic British Steam Locomotives, all the pictures are preservation shots but a great single source of loco types and a handy reference for identifying particular locos.

The best part? They all cost two pounds each!! Unbelievable value for money and all going to a perfect cause of supporting a preservation railway. If you get a chance go along for a look around. Only a mile or so of running track but a couple of beautiful locos and infectious enthusiasm and warmth from everyone.
