Default Newbie in France

Though a very keen railway modeller when young I haven't had a layout for 40 years. This summer I was passed a large quantity of Super 4 Triang/Hornby track and stock that had been in my wife's family for many years. I assembled that into a layout for the grandchildren to use when they visited. However, we found 40 year old rails and locos were not that reliable.
So I am just starting a new layout from scratch using Peco 75 track, DCC (NCE powercab) and am deep into the (re)learning curve. I live in France so the local model club is all HO continental layouts. An OO gauge GWR branchline will be something different for them!

That sounds most interesting, though I'm a bit sorry the old stuff didn't work so well.
Sounds like a fascinating endeavor; I hope to see more.

Hi.Welcome to the forum.
Super 4 to Peco code 75. That's some change!
Starting in OO I think I would have opted for code 100 where any older stock items might be run!
Remember code 75 track is very easily damaged. So great care needs to be taken when cutting and curving the track.

Welcome. My thoughts exactly when I read that you'd opted for code 75. Many old locos I have struggle on code 100, so would never make it on code 75. If you've not invested yet, think carefully about this. Do you want to run the old stock. It will more than likely just need a lot of cleaning up of wheels and the motors and would run perfectly well afterwards. If it is for the grandchildren to run, then it would be ideal if you don't have too many points which is where the old locos struggle.

Actually I will keep the old Super 4 layout for the grandkids and the old locos.

The new Peco 75 layout is for me (plus my wife is interested too) and will use new or recent locos and stock. We will have to see how it goes and adapt /fettle as required.
