with all the messing about having to resize photos to post on various forums, there are quite a few differences in file size allocation, one forum i use the max file size is 250kb for jpg images, so i have resorted to setting my camera to the lowest resolution of 0.3m pixels, this gives a file of around 150kb so a can upload to any forum without having to adjust,

IrfanView is another free package that's easy to use and great at reducing or renaming files. Especially good for doing a batch or multiple images in one hit. IrfanView link
