Having registered a little while back, I thought I'd say hello.
Due to my asthma, I often find it difficult to persue my outdoor activities in the summer months, so I have decided to put together a small model rail layout, to keep me busy, mostly, in the summer months. I'm developing a smallish 8 feet x 5 feet OO DCC layout, in a spare room, based loosely around 1958ish. The internet provides a wealth of advice but, no doubt, I'll pop in here from time to benefit from some of you much more experienced modellers. |

Hi Hawk -welcome to the forum. You are in good company in that there are many folk on here who have layouts based "loosely" on something or other

Welcome Chris. Good idea to base your layout loosley on a period. Helps prevent you buying too many locos. Well it is supposed to.

Welcome. 8'x5' is a nice size. The extra foot width really increases the possibilities. Enjoy. Probably the best advice I can give is to resist the temptation to fill the board with track. Yes, I've been there and done that more then once. The problem is that scenery takes up space as well. Space is a luxury. We would all like to have an extra few feet, even if we are blessed with a large room! There is always something we would like to squeeze in...
The best advice beyond all advice is to enjoy! ![]() |
