Thinking out loud..... If a thin, narrow and shortish strip of steel was soldered or welded to the nail head and laid along the sleepers, would the magnetic field produced by the coil be transmitted into the strip thereby giving a longer uncoupling area??

I did think about that but I couldn’t find a bit of iron that was suitable. One day I will.
It will be interesting to try as the magnetic field reduces in direct proportion to the distance from the core so getting it right would be a challenge.

Clearance, dear boy, clearance.

The staple and hook only just clear the rail head on points and they need space to swing down as the coupling lifts. At best the metal strip would be about the thickness of a tin can.

OK, a very flat nail.

You could cut a slot in the sleepers for it.

It would look like one of those springy uncoupling ramps Iíve been trying to avoid.

A couple of uncouplers are on curves - where can I get a radius 3 flat nail?

Hi Steve - I've just read this thread from page one - very interesting, but too fiddly for me. Well done for persevering and making it work. Barry
