Bin it is my view too. You will never get 100% satisfactory running on old track that has steel rail.

As you already have the Lichen and if you still want to use it after reading the other posts, tear it up unto clumps and stick it down with PVA adhesive which will dry clear, Then dab the Lichen with neat PVA and sprinkle on scenic flock.

Oh, a serious Wrong Side failure has occurred! In the lower picture the cross-over routes signal is lowered (Proceed) but there is a train on the opposite line waiting for a proceed!
