I have 6 of the coaches and have had no problems in the two years running them on DCC. The only problem encountered was a reluctance for the coaches to remain on R2 curves.

Hattons web site includes info that the original models are manufactured for them by third parties in the UK and China.

Have you tried fitting a known good decoder into the unresponsive loco and the suspect decoder into a loco that works on DCC? Perhaps if funds permit a decoder tester would be a good addition to your toolkit.

My first commercial flight was from Newcastle to Hannover in a Dakota operated I believe by DanAir in 1960. The cabin was lined with what appeared to be hardboard and I was admittedly praying when we hit severe turbulence over the Dutch Coast.

Tom, Perhaps a method of testing the drive is by using a rolling road. Mark a front and rear driving wheel in a similar position and then run the loco slowly in both directions checking for any discrepancy in the distance travelled by the wheels. Should a difference exist I suspect it is more likely...
