Not sure if anyone has seen this yet. Might be of interest to some.
The Hornby One:One Collection Open Weekend

Some exciting things to expect include:
  • Get up close to full size steam locos ‘Bittern’ and a ‘Black 5’. Be amongst the first to see the early exhibits of The One:One Collection, as the museum at Margate begins to take shape, including a range of Steam Trains, Coaches and Wagons.
  • Walk through the refurbished Visitor Centre.
  • View numerous Model Railway Exhibits/layouts located in the former factory where many products were designed and made.
  • Indulge and enjoy a summer BBQ and hog roast.
  • Be entertained by the model railway editors attending, historic videos and films
  • Get to meet the Hornby stars of the BBC TV Series – James May’s Big Trouble in model Britain
  • Talk to the design and development team as they explain how models are made.

We were discussing it on the other forum, looks good but wrong side of London for me.

Not the open weekend in the title but there is a factory sale at the Visitor Centre this weekend.
Called in this morning and although there was a reasonable selection available, prices were a lot higher than previous events.
For once I bought nothing in the sale area, but.........they had a load of Oxford Rail ‘Janus’ 0-6-0 . No boxes but at £50 it would have been rude not to. :D

Annoyingly I shall be Essex on Saturday and travelling back through Kent on Sunday - but no time.

Quite enjoyed the visit and like you decided to purchase the Janus (Port of London) model for £50.
I don't know about yours, but mine is going back. On first inspection she seemed fine, but whilst running her in on DC she was incredibly jerky. Checked the wheels and they were filthy! Went to open her up and noticed some of the parts underneath had glue all over them and one screw wasn't in correctly. When I checked the holes for that screw didn't line up and the screw head was almost stripped! Very disappointed, £50 or not I would expect better.

Hope you had more success with yours?

I had the clean the wheels, but I tend to do that before running in and fitting a decoder anyway. No issues with mine, runs beautifully. I think you were just unfortunate.
